Forgotten gems from the 90s (part 1)

Here’s a list of albums that might have passed you by from the 90s that I highly recommend you checking out.

1. Fluffy- Black Eye (1996)

The only full album by British all girl punk rock band Fluffy. Rough around the edges, catchy and badass. Listen to: Husband, For Fans of L7, Hole

2. Shampoo- We Are Shampoo (1994)

A duo who mixed bubblegum pop with punk attitude, made up of 2 school friends who used to write zines. The album artwork is also pretty amazing too. Listen to: Trouble, For fans of: Elastica

3. Angelfish- Angelfish (1994)

Shirley Manson’s former band before Garbage, Scottish goth alt rock that’s well worth picking up. Hinting at the dark and twisty sound to come with Garbage. Listen to: Dogs in a Cage, For fans of: Garbage

4. Human Waste Project-E-Lux (1997)

Only album recorded by Californian rockers fronted by Aimee Echoe. Heavy on the guitars, needs to be played loud. Listen to: Exit Wound, For Fans of: The Distillers, Queen Adreena

5. Cibo Matto- Viva! La Woman (1996)

Japanese duo who mixed trip hop with rock and mostly wrote food related lyrics. Noisy and shouty then smooth and sweet. Listen to: Birthday Cake, For fans of: Bjork

6. Kidney Thieves- Trickster (1998)

Debut album from industrial rockers led by Free Dominguez. Listen to: Taxicab Messiah, For fans of: NIN

7. Goya Dress- Rooms (1996)

Scottish alt rock fronted by classically trained pianist Astrid Williamson. Listen to: Glorious, For fans of: Alanis, The Cranberries

8. Sneaker Pimps- Becoming X (1995)

One of my all time faves, electronic trip-hop with attitude. Fronted by Kelli Ali (who went on to make brilliant solo albums) this is a 90s classic. Listen to: Roll On, For fans of: Tricky, Massive Attack
